Fragments of amniotic membrane in nitrocellulose medium. Available in different sizes: • Fragments with a diameter of 2.5 cm • Fragments with a diameter of 4.5 cm

Clinical applications • Ophthalmic use in patients with epithelial defects of the cornea or conjunctiva: corneal ulcers, acute chemical burns, large conjunctival resections • Adjuvant in cornea transplantation and when problems with tissue generation or postoperative healing are expected

Processing consists of separating the amniotic membrane from the chorion. The fragments obtained are frozen in a controlled manner to -80 ºC in a cryoprotectant solution (RPMI + glycerol). This solution contains an antibiotic cocktail (penicillin, streptomycin and amphotericin B).

The tissues undergo a decontamination process that includes a series of mechanical and chemical treatments (gentamicin, alcohol, hydrogen peroxide and detergent).

Cornea precut at the corneal stroma for replacement of the anterior part of the patient’s cornea. The depth of the anterior lamella should be indicated by the surgeon in a range of 130 μm - 450 μm.

The lamella is obtained after cutting the cornea with a semiautomatic microkeratome and then placed in an artificial anterior chamber, measuring its thickness with an ultrasonic pachymeter. Depending on the value obtained, the most appropriate cutting head is chosen to obtain the corneal lamella of the required thickness. Depending on the type of cornea of origin, the product is kept at 2-10 ºC or ambient temperature until used.
